Wayne Rockwell Geyer

Wayne Rockwell "Rocky" Geyer, Ph.D. is a Senior Scientist and Chairman of the Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). He earned his master's and doctoral degrees in physical oceanography from the University of Washington in Seattle. He holds a bachelor's degree in geology from Dartmouth College.

Geyer, who came to WHOI as a post-doctoral scholar in 1985, formerly directed WHOI's Rinehart Coastal Research Center. He has served on the National Research Council's Panel on Environmental Processes: Source, Fate and Transport, and is a member of the Ocean Studies Board, the American Geophysical Union and the Estuarine Research Federation. His research interests include estuarine and coastal transport processes; sediment transport; numerical modeling of estuaries and river plumes.
