Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Beacon Institute, in partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), established a Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2006, to promote new research on estuaries and enhance the connection between oceanographic and estuarine science being done at both institutions. Rocky Geyer, Ph.D. of WHOI oversees the program with support from The Beacon Institute.

Malcolm E. Scully, Ph.D. the inaugural 2006 Beacon Institute/WHOI postdoctoral scholar, conducted research on the Hudson River will improve scientific understanding of how salt and other dissolved materials are transported throughout estuaries.

Read about Scully's work and final report here. He writes, "This research helped to highlight how the manner in which turbulent mixing varies in time and space can impact the basic circulation patterns of an estuary. The chance to come to WHOI as The Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries postdoctoral fellow has been an excellent opportunity to further my research on this topic."
